Several times I played it and never really got as far as Neo Ark, because I was more interested in the town and what happens there. There's something about Dryfield, this empty stretch of desert with this tiny little town in the middle of nowhere. I don't know how to explain why I liked this one so much. I'd probably still be playing it if I still had a working PS1. I started playing it back in.hmm.probably about spring of 2001? Not sure all I know is I was posting fanfiction about it by May of 2002. Oh man, this is one of my top three favorite games ever. There is a New Game+ after you beat the game, but my motivation is not high enough to play through it again. I enjoyed my playthrough, but will probably not play it again. Not too big, but interesting enough and pretty well done. Squaresoft knew what they were doing with the PS1 back in the days. The cut-scences are still pretty to look at. The per-rendered backgrounds look good even today. Graphically this is a very pretty PS1 game. It has different endings, I went for the good one (with a guide). Nonsensical and stereotyped in some parts, but it kept me enough motivated to continue. I actually liked the grinding aspect of freeing rooms/areas again and again :) I don't know why, but once you learned the enemy it was fun to get rid of them in the most efficient way (not loosing too much health/MP). Battles within the original screens was not perfect in PE1, the areas sometimes felt to small to do a proper battle in them. And this really sucked, because you needed to retry the rooms, since you only knew what is there once you stumbled into the enemies. You very, very often don't see the enemies you are shooting at. The biggest complaint I have about the action system that is not that good integrated into the environment. Controls are tank controls like in Resident Evil and it can get very frustrating to navigate in a hectic battle. But the action system was for me a step down. It's actually not that bad and I didn't mind the change to pure action. I really liked the battle system of Parasite Eve I with its tactical but somewhat real-time approach. Parasite Eve II is a good successor, although it changed in some parts drastically. However, it is worth remembering that Resident Evil fans fought for the Resident Evil 2 remake, allowing Capcom to see that there is a high demand for the reimagining of the classic game, and maybe Parasite Eve fans who wish to see the return of the franchise should also do the same.I like the original Parasite Eve game pretty much. Moreover, Kitase also acknowledged that there is a huge demand for horror games right now, and while Parasite Eve is not a full-fledged horror game, it still had a touch of survival horror, similar to the classic Resident Evil titles. In the end, no one knows whether Square Enix will ever resurrect the Parasite Eve franchise again. However, fans shouldn't lose all hope given that Square Enix developer Yoshinori Kitase, who is also the producer of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, revealed in an interview that he believes the characters in Parasite Eve are "very deep and rich." Additionally, Kitase also remarked that "I don't know any plans right now, but it would be a waste not to use those characters." However, the rumors about the possibility of a remake continue to be a popular topic of discussion online, which is evidence in itself that there are still devoted fans who want to see the return of the franchise. Unfortunately for fans, it appears that a remake of Parasite Eve is unlikely given that Square Enix hasn't really shown a deep interest to revive the franchise. Of course, it is important to point out that Parasite Eve is not as successful as Resident Evil, but it is also worth pointing out that Square Enix has the opportunity to reintroduce Parasite Eve to a new generation of players who may be interested in playing the story of Aya Brea.Īs previously mentioned, Square Enix still hasn't revealed any plans to remake Parasite Eve. Earlier this year, Capcom also released a remake of Resident Evil 3, and while it is not as popular as Resident Evil 2, the RE3 remake is still considered a success. While the initial launch was lackluster, the Resident Evil Remake increased its overall sales when it was released to the PS3, and eventually, the PS4.Ĭapcom's remake of Resident Evil 2 is the company's most successful yet, especially since the 2019 remake has since outsold the original's lifetime sales. In 2001, Capcom released a remake of the first Resident Evil game on the GameCube. However, looking at the success of reimagined games in the past years, Square Enix has the opportunity to achieve the same level of success as Capcom when it comes to remakes, and Parasite Eve may even be Square Enix's Resident Evil. At the moment, Square Enix hasn't confirmed anything with regards to a remake of Parasite Eve.
